Hovercraft Ship – Whimsical Scratch Build

Friends and family have recently started giving me scrap plastic since they know I scratch-build models. I was given some more plastic pieces recently. Had a quick look at some of them and decided I’d make a whimsical hovercraft. Something for a 2-year-old kid to display in their room. It will be a gift.

I’ve used CA Glue with Baking Powder to glue the pieces. I’ve only added a light coat of primer on it so far to see what it looks like. The tail section needs to be modified and the propulsion system at the back of it needs to be ‘beefed up’ a bit. It looks too ‘front-heavy’ and also looks underpowered atm.

I didn’t make it from any drawings/ plans. Half the fun of this project was ‘make it up as I go alone’. A bit of creative freedom fun.
I was thinking about the Matrix movies when I made this. I’ll call this model ship ‘The Nebuchadnezzar 2’.

Once I finish the build, I’ll add putty, sand it, add putty primer and then sand it entirely smooth. Then start the painting process.

I did a quick lighting test – a few pics are below. The lighting is coming through the plastic atm, so I’ll need to fix this. I’ll also fix up any other light-leaks.

I’ll call this ‘recycling’ 🙂
